"No absolute need for them ... for us to provide them with a playing field"

Speaking on STV last night, Cllr Liz Fordyce (Education Convener of the Education Committee) had this to say:
“It is tight, but … where we’ve had room we’ve built out the way and schools are only one storey high. This one we could build up the way and they’ll still have all the facilities. It is an inner city school so there is no absolute need for them ... for us to provide them with a playing field as part of the facilities of the school.”

  1. Can anyone comment on the rumour that the Al-Maktoum institute plan to retain the St Jo's school building and use it for, among other things, a school?

  2. Have Al-Maktoum bought St Josephs? If St Josephs is indeed to be sold to fund the new schools, surely the Local Authority are under a legal obligation to offer this for sale on the open market to achieve the best possible price? Have the Council completed the sale of Bellefield nursery /purchase of Logie? The sale of St Josephs would have to be a separate issue otherwise surely this would have had to have been diclosed in the consultaion? If Al - Maktoum offer the best price for the site so be it but the Council have a duty to the tax payers to achieve the best price possible. Any answers would be welcome.

  3. Logie, land contamination and your child.

Can anyone comment on the report that the soil contamination on the Logie site led to a previous recommendation for any area of open space to be covered by a minimum 1 meter thickness of soil to "prevent direct contact by humans"?

  4. This Councillor does not sound as if she has the first comprehension of what is actually involved in this. This is quite scary. From someone not directly involved, the arguments put forward by the members of the Committee have been well structured and researched and this is what they are up against! God Help Us indeed.

  5. I agree with you, june 2, 10.53. To build up de wey.....does that inspire confidence. What more do these parents have to do before the politicians bow their heads in sorrow or shame. Children and not pockets full of money is what should matter.
